Clues when the tag will not say
- Two side-swinging doors The 7 Series French-door oven, VSOF7301 single or VDOF7301 double. Its knobs are ringed with LED lights. Safe to wait
- An analog clock on the panel A Premiere, which Viking sells as 5 Series. The number then carries a 5 after the letters. Safe to wait
- One TruGlide rack in a single oven A Select: it came with one TruGlide rack, in the upper oven on a double. Premiere and French-door singles came with two, and their doubles with three. Safe to wait
- It will not heat, whichever it is Not an identification question. Every heating fault on these ovens belongs to the oven repair service, starting from the breaker. Book this week
Reading the letters
After the V, an S marks a single oven and a D a double. In Viking’s current list an E after the O is a standard electric oven, and an F the French-door version. RV at the front means the 3 Series: the RVSOE330 and RVDOE330, both 30 inches wide. Older ovens are tagged VESO for a single and VEDO for a double, with the same Select and Premiere numbering; a T on the end of those marks touch control, and all of them are discontinued.
What this page leaves out
This page sorts the ovens; it does not diagnose them. A wall oven that runs cool, stays dark or will not broil is a repair question whatever its series, and it goes to the oven repair visit with the model number in hand.
Questions about the wall ovens by series
How do I tell a Viking Select wall oven from a Premiere?
Check the number, then the clock. In Viking's list a 1 after the letters means Select and a 5 means Premiere, followed by the width, so VSOE130 is a 30-inch Select and VDOE527 a 27-inch double Premiere. Premiere ovens also carry an analog clock. Viking Appliance Repair Mercer Island, (206) 208-3377, can confirm it from the tag.
Is a Viking French-door wall oven a different series?
Yes. Viking sells the VSOF7301 single and VDOF7301 double as 7 Series, while the Select and Premiere ovens are 5 Series. The French-door models open on side-swinging doors, and their single or upper oven uses Steam Clean instead of the high-heat self-clean found on the other ovens in the same manual.
